Understand The Cadet Pilot Application Process

Gaining entry into a cadet program with an airline is highly competitive. Understanding the application and interview process allows you the best possible preparation, putting you ahead of other applicants and increasing your chances of success.

The Future Cadet Pilot Program is a comprehensive course that will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare and submit a high quality application, and then follow it up with confidence throughout the interview stages.

The Perfect Recipe For Success

Having core aviation knowledge is a highly desirable trait that airlines will look for in cadet applicants. The FCPP course syllabus features flight training to develop your practical and technical flying skills, advanced airline theory training, and ICAO English training.

The course also includes our highly specialised Airline Interview Coaching Session, led by an airline interview specialist. The combination of practical flying skills targeted at airline theory and advanced interview skills is a perfect recipe for successful airline cadet pilot applications.

Schedule a meeting with us to discuss your aviation career goals and how we can help you get there.

  • 1. Enrolment & Orientation

Upon enrolment you will receive a Training Starter Lot which contains all relevant course materials, access to shared online resources, and detailed information on your course process. Your orientation will include an introduction to the airport, airspace, aircraft fleet, LTF processes and policies, and our facilities.

  • 2. Simulation Training

Students can complete their simulation training in Hong Kong, Singapore or Melbourne. Your time in the simulator will help you grasp the techniques needed for each practical flying session, allowing you to put the skills you have learnt into practice when you start your flight training component in a real aircraft. Students will also complete B737 simulation training in Melbourne with Flight Experience, they will get to experience what it's like to command a 60-tonne jet airliner in a Boeing-certified sim.

  • 3. Flight Training

Flight training will be conducted at Learn to Fly's Melbourne training base at Moorabbin Airport. We have a range of aircraft options available, including Diamond DA40s with glass cockpit avionics and LCD flight instrument displays, similar to the aircraft used in cadet pilot flight training phases. Your exact flight training syllabus will be determined by the package you choose, ranging from basic training all the way through to training area solo flights in preparation for the RPL flight test.

  • 4. Advanced Theory Session

For an even broader and more complete preparation, the advanced theory session will cover a range of content that is not normally covered in standard RPL or PPL ground theory syllabus. This will include topics that are more specifically relevant to airlines and airline pilots, such as Jet Aircraft and Jet Engine Theory.

  • 5. Airline Interview Coaching Session

Airline Interview Coaching Session is a comprehensive full-day program designed to prepare aspiring pilots for airline selection processes. Covering key topics such as aviation industry insights, cadetship pathways, resume and cover letter writing, aptitude and psychometric testing, behavioural and technical interviews, and long-term career development, this workshop equips students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to succeed. Participants will also gain access to digital resources, ensuring they are fully prepared to take the next step toward their airline career.

  • 6. ICAO English

ICAO English is specifically designed for the aviation industry. All prospective airline cadet pilots will need to pass and achieve minimum standards in an Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) Exam at some stage of the application or training process. Our online training will help you to develop and fine-tune your Aviation English skills and proficiency in preparation for the AELP Exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Learn to Fly FAQ section! Here, we've gathered the most frequently asked questions about our FCPP Training Program to help you navigate your journey towards becoming an airline cadet pilot. Our aim is to provide you with the essential information you need to begin this exciting adventure with confidence. For further assistance, feel free to contact us.

  • 1. Who should attend this FCPP training program, and how does it differ from other flight training programs?

The Future Cadet Pilot Program (FCPP) program is tailored for students with little or no flying experience who aspire to join airline cadet pilot programs. It provides a comprehensive introduction to flight training, outlines the pathway to becoming a pilot, and equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in airline cadet pilot interviews.

The key difference between the FCPP and other training programs is its strong emphasis on airline interview preparation in addition to flight training. It features specialised components like online Aviation English Language Proficiency (AELP) training and a dedicated Airline Interview Coaching Session, these elements are not offered in other programs.

  • 2. When should I do this training?

It’s recommended to complete this training 3 to 6 months before your airline interview. This gives you time to research, review, and practise the skills learned during the session. You can also choose to add a revision session closer to your interview date, where we’ll review everything with you again to ensure you’re fully prepared.

  • 3. Can I study this as an international student?

Yes, since the training duration is under 3 months, you’re eligible to undertake it on a tourist visa.

  • 4. How long should I plan for the training? Can I study the theory in my home country to shorten the training time in Melbourne?

The training typically takes between 1 to 8 weeks to complete, depending on the package you choose.

All packages include access to an online theory course. Once you enrol, we’ll send you the login details so you can begin studying from your home country.

The airline interview coaching session can be completed either in person in Melbourne or online.

Please note that while theory can be done remotely, practical flight training must be completed in Melbourne. This requires approximately 1 week for the Lite package, 3 weeks for the Solo package, and 6–8 weeks for the RPL package. If needed, you can complete the training over multiple visits, as your progress will not expire.

  • 5. What is the success rate? Do you guarantee that students will pass the airline interview?

While we cannot guarantee that every student will pass their airline cadet pilot interview, our Future Cadet Pilot Program (FCPP) is specifically designed to maximize your chances of success. Since 2017, our program has helped more than 300 students secure positions with various airlines, including Cathay Pacific Airways, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines and Scoot. While individual outcomes depend on various factors, including personal dedication and performance, our program provides a solid foundation to prepare you for airline interviews.

  • 6. Do you offer accommodation for international students?

Yes, we do. Please contact us and let us know your intended check-in and check-out dates, we'll promptly inform you about availability.

“Flying with Learn To Fly Melbourne was an amazing experience for me. It built up my confidence in flying and prepared me to take on the challenges ahead. Things I learnt at LTF helped me to get through some of the tough times during my Cathay cadet pilot interview and flight training. Now I’m preparing to start my airline pilot career as a Second Officer.”
